Irrigation and Reclamation Districts

Solar Power for Pump Stations

Whether you're an irrigation district or a reclamation district, pumping water requires a lot of energy and the cost of power continues to rise – year after year.  SolAgra® has a solar power solution to operate your pump stations, that can save you millions of dollars in energy costs in over 30 years of operation.

SolAgra’s® CEO Barry Sgarrella, has been a Trustee of RD 1601 since 2005. It is because of this experience that we understand the needs of the Delta and pumping water. SolAgra® offers ground mounted, carport, and SolAgra Farming solar options, custom designed for our client’s needs.

SolAgra’s® solar arrays, financing and deal structures offer your districts a risk free way to save money.

How can SolAgra® save your Irrigation or Reclamation District money?

Utility rates are increasing at an increasing rate. For example PG&E electricity rates for agriculture rose an average of 9-10% every year since 2007. In the years since the CA wildfires in 2015, PG&E rates have increased an average of 15-18% every year. Solagra can help you escape these rate increases.
  • SolAgra® offers electric rates that are the same as, or lower than your utility rates today. However, as utility rates continue to rise at an increasing rate, SolAgra's® rates get locked in and your costs will be known upfront.
  • The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 makes it possible for NPOs to take advantage of a 30% tax credit in the form of a direct payment, reducing project costs. Additionally, SolAgra and our partners can capture other tax incentives, further reducing the cost of your solar project.
  • The solar power plant will provide power to your pump station(s) during daylight hours at a rate that is lower than the utility charges for daytime power.
  • Your district does NOT have to purchase or put up any upfront costs in order to install the solar array. Under a long term lease, you pay only for the power used on a monthly basis, or we can help you finance the project. Either way there's no big upfront cost and your save money on your power bill every month.

San Joaquin river water users Co. complete a 183kw solar carport with solagra

SolAgra completed construction on a solar carport in Manteca CA, for the San Joaquin River Water Users during the fall of 2022. SolAgra estimates that this irrigation district will save over a million dollars over the coarse of it's 20 year loan. Another major benefit is that once the loan is paid off, the electricity from the system will be free. The array should last for over 30 years, making the last 10 years of the array produce huge savings.
