Barry Sgarrella
CEO of Marin Developers, LLC & SolAgra Corporation
Barry Sgarrella, is a third generation land developer and licensed general contractor. He literally "grew up in the business". Educated in Civil (Structural) Engineering at the University of Florida, he took his place in the family development/ construction business immediately after college. He gained development knowledge and continued in the family business for years.
To expand his experience in commercial construction, he left the family business to work for a commercial general contractor. Over the next 5 years, he built two general hospitals in the Washington, D.C. region - one in Fairfax, Virginia, the second in Prince Georges County, Maryland. To increase his knowledge in heavy construction, he worked for the Gordon H. Ball Division of Dillingham Construction building 4 underground subway stations and 6 miles of hard rock tunnels on the Washington, D.C. Metro System.
Returning to California, he opened his own land development and construction firm in 1984. He has developed successful residential and commercial projects in northern California for the last 29 years. After enjoying the boating and recreational opportunities in the California Delta for a decade, in 1987 he bought a home on Twitchell Island. That home had a small wind turbine, and it began a fascination and appreciation of renewable energy systems. For the last 8 years, he has been a Director and Trustee of the Twitchell Island Levee District (Reclamation District1601) and has become familiar with the many issues of living and working on Delta islands and providing the environmental stewardship that maintains this delicate eco-system in balance.
